Lakeview Town Council Approves New School Zone to Improve Safety Near Cornerstone Christian School and Little One Christian Preschool
Lakeview, OR – In response to community concerns, the Lakeview Town Council voted unanimously on April 8, 2025 to establish a new school zone along North 2nd Street to enhance student safety near Cornerstone Christian School and Little One Christian Preschool.
Tiffany Spradley, community members and advocates for local student safety, brought the issue before the Council during its regular meeting. They emphasized the need for better traffic safety measures, pointing out that the current stop signs alone are not sufficient to protect children—particularly during the staggered release times for different age groups.
The newly designated school zone includes signage on North 2nd Street, with the first sign posted at the intersection of North 2nd and North H Street, and the second sign located near the intersection of North 2nd and North K Street. These signs are positioned to alert drivers traveling through the area during school hours.
Effective immediately, the posted school zone speed limit is 20 miles per hour during school hours and when children are present.
Cornerstone Christian School and Little One Christian Preschool are located near the First Baptist Church at 910 N 2nd Street, Lakeview, OR 97630. The Town Council’s action was taken to prioritize the safety of children attending these schools, and the Council also discussed the importance of additional signage and coordination with law enforcement to ensure compliance.
The motion to approve the new school zone passed with full support from the Council in a 5-0 vote.
