Jacobs has been awarded the Oregon Department of Energy, Community Renewable Energy Grant Project

Lakeview, Oregon, January 10, 2024 – The Town of Lakeview awarded their Oregon Department of Energy, Community Renewable Energy Grant in November 2023 to Jacobs, a global leader in technical, professional, and construction services This grant, totaling $100,000, marks a pivotal partnership between Lakeview and Jacobs to spearhead innovative geothermal energy initiatives in the region.

As part of this grant, Jacobs secures $50,000 designated for design and engineering consulting fees. $30,000 has been allocated to Interconnection Studies, with the remaining $20,000 earmarked for administrative expenditures. This allocation underlines a concerted effort to ensure comprehensive coverage across diverse aspects of this initiative.

Jacobs, boasting a workforce of over 55,000 experts, stands as a prominent force in engineering, architecture, construction, operations, and scientific consulting. Renowned for their expansive portfolio, the company has undertaken geothermal projects worldwide, demonstrating expertise across a spectrum of operations, from small-scale ventures to extensive 140 MW+ endeavors. With an impressive track record encompassing more than 100 geothermal resources in over 38 countries, Jacobs has contributed significantly to over one-third of the world’s geothermal power generation.

The collaboration between the Town of Lakeview and Jacobs signifies a progressive stride toward developing a comprehensive understanding of geothermal energy resources and demand models. This strategic venture will analyze geothermal temperatures, pressures, and flow rates, culminating in a forward-thinking Geothermal Strategy Development.

Central to this initiative is the integration of existing resources within the North Industrial area, including those associated with the Warner Correctional Facility. The outcomes of this project will offer the Town an invaluable framework for mapping and determining necessary investments to leverage these resources effectively.

A pivotal aspect of this venture lies in community engagement, as stakeholders and local businesses will be actively involved in exploring the vast potential of geothermal opportunities and their implications for economic development in Lakeview. This project serves as a guiding playbook, addressing intricate climate change challenges with sustainable geothermal solutions, positioning Lakeview at the forefront of environmentally conscious development. With this strategic alliance, Lakeview and Jacobs aim to pave the way for a brighter, greener future, leveraging the power of geothermal energy to foster sustainable growth and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Completion Date: April 30, 2024

October 2023 – the creation of a consortium, RFP Contract Award, 1st Quarterly Progress Report Delivered to ODOE. Completed.

November 2023 – site visit for the consortium, development of a calendar, and building stock assessment to network and idealize equipment & retrofitting. Completed.

December 2023 – permitting plan developed, vetted with jurisdictional authorities, the final draft of regulatory plan completed. April 2024 – final findings prepared in a report and presentation. Presentation delivered to stakeholders. Final Report Delivered to ODOE.

Town of Lakeview (“Town”) Town is home to approximately 2,400 persons and is in Lake County, Oregon. The Town is managed by a Town Manager. The Town Manager oversees the public works department, fire department, 911 dispatch, and town hall administration. The public works department oversees the Town’s municipal utilities (water and wastewater) and transportation system (streets). The public works crew operates and maintains the public facilities and utilities that are provided by the Town.
