Development Code Update Underway

The Town is thrilled to share some exciting developments that will shape the future of our darling town. Over the years, our community has grown and changed, and it’s crucial that our development code evolves as well.

As stewards of our town’s progress, we recognize the importance of having a development code that aligns with our shared vision, values, and aspirations. This update is not just about rules and regulations – it’s about envisioning a town that meets the needs of current and future generations while preserving the unique character that makes our town so special.

What is the Development Code?

The development code is a set of guidelines and regulations that govern how land is used and developed within our town. It covers everything from zoning and building standards to design guidelines and environmental considerations. By updating our development code, we can ensure that our town continues to be a great place to live, work, and play.

Why Update Now?

Our current development code was designed to meet the needs of a different era. The update will modernize regulations, allow us to address new challenges, embrace sustainable practices, enhance our public spaces, and encourage thoughtful and innovative design.

Purpose

This Code is enacted to promote the public health, safety, and welfare; and to encourage the orderly and efficient development and use of land within the Town of Lakeview, consistent with the Town of Lakeview Comprehensive Plan and the following principles:

To comply with applicable state regulations enacted since the current code was adopted in 2001.
To restructure the code to make it easier to administer for the Town and easier to understand for community users of the code.
To promote the public health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the Town of Lakeview.
Full and efficient utilization of urban services (e.g., water, sewer, storm drainage, parks, and transportation facilities).
Development of an interconnected street system supporting multiple modes of transportation.
To comply with ORS Chapters 227 and 197.

The revised code will be more accessible and user-friendly. Clear language, diagrams, and user-friendly formats will make it easier for residents, businesses, and developers to understand and follow the regulations.
