Grant and Reimbursement Process

Understanding the process of receiving a grant and how the reimbursement process typically works.

The law requires that information about entities and organizations receiving federal and state funds be disclosed to the public. Grants are funds that are provided by organizations, institutions, governments, or foundations to support specific projects, activities, or initiatives. Reimbursement, in this context, refers to the process of getting back money that you have already spent on eligible project-related expenses.

In many cases, you do not receive cash upfront for an awarded grant. Instead, grant funds are often disbursed on a reimbursement basis or according to a predetermined schedule. The disbursement process can vary depending on the granting organization, the terms of the grant, and the nature of the project. The grant of $15,000,000 allocated to the Town’s Water Treatment Facility through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) operates on a reimbursement model. This applies similarly to most of the grants we have been honored with.

Here’s a general overview of how the grant application and reimbursement process works:

Grant Application Process:

Some grants may also require additional documentation, such as financial statements or letters of support.

  4. Submit Application: Submit your grant application according to the instructions provided by the grant-giving organization. This could involve submitting the application online, through email, or by traditional mail.
