System-wide smart water meter project schedule

Lakeview, Oregon, August 2, 2023 – The Town of Lakeview and its contractors have begun their first phase of the system-wide implementation of smart meters for its water customers. The completion of the first phase is expected to conclude October 2023.  The second phase will begin May 2024.

The Town asks its customers to be aware of the flowing schedule for manual and smart meter reads. *Time frames are estimated and are subject to change.

Phase 1:

• • August 2023: No meter readings will be taken. Instead, historical data (previous month’s usage) will be used to calculate water usage and applied to their bills.
  • September 2023: Both manual and smart meter reads will be taken. This means some customers might still have traditional meters that require manual reading, while others will have smart meters that can transmit data remotely.

From October 2023 to April 2024, the town will use winter averages for billing purposes. This is not a new approach; this is how it has been calculated in the past. This indicates during this period, the water usage for customers will be determined based on the average usage recorded during the winter months. Winter averages are often used during non-peak seasons to provide a more consistent billing approach.

Phase 2:

• • May 2024 to August 2024: Both manual and smart meter reads will be taken. This means some customers might still have traditional meters that require manual reading, while others will have smart meters that can transmit data remotely.
  • September 2024 to October 2024: Smart meter conversion will take place. This means that by the end of October 2024, the town intends to complete the transition to smart meters, and all customers will have smart meters installed. 

Smart meters will improve the accuracy and efficiency of water usage monitoring and billing, as smart meters can provide real-time data without the need for manual readings. It’s important for customers to be aware of the schedule and any potential changes in billing procedures during the transition period.

Town of Lakeview (“Town”) Town is home to approximately 2,300 persons and is in Lake County, Oregon. The Town is managed by a Town Manager. The Town Manager oversees the public works department, fire department, 9-1-1 dispatch, and town hall administration. The public works department oversees the Town’s municipal utilities (water and wastewater) and transportation system (streets). The public works crew operates and maintains the public facilities and utilities that are provided by the Town.
