Consumer Price Index Rate (CPI-U) Water/Sewer Rate Increase for 2024

Lakeview, Oregon, November 16, 2023 – Notice of January 1, 2024, rate increase. This increase was approved by the Town of Lakeview Council on the 23rd day of February 2021, allowing the Town of Lakeview to increase water and wastewater rates annually. Any rate or fee adjustments will be based on the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U).

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers rose 3.2 percent for the 12 months ending October 2023. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures the change in prices paid by consumers for goods and services. The Town of Lakeview will increase water and wastewater rates by 3.2 percent, starting January 1, 2024. Your February 1, 2024, bill will reflect this rate increase. It is necessary that the Town of Lakeview maintains adequate operating funds and capital reserves. A variety of factors are behind the increase, inflation, aging water, and sewer systems that require maintenance; environmental compliance; and large new infrastructure projects, including the water treatment facility. We are still well below the average in the state of Oregon.
